Slack Alerts
Through Muck Rack's integration with Slack, you can send new article alerts to the Slack app on your computer or mobile device. You’ll be able to stay up-to-date with published notifications on any new articles that match the alert filters you set.
Watch the video below for an introduction to Coverage Alerts in Slack:
Overview of a Slack Alert
In Slack, Muck Rack Alerts will include:
The title of the coverage (which links to the Who Shared My Link? tool)
The journalist's name (which links to their Muck Rack profile)
The date it was published
A preview of the article with Alert keywords appearing in bold text
A link to the settings for the associated Slack Alert for quick access in case you need to make adjustments
NOTE: Although these alerts can be viewed by anyone in your Slack instance, selecting the link in a Slack alert opens the article link in Muck Rack's Who Shared My Link? report which requires a Muck Rack login to view.
Benefits of Slack Alerts
We designed our Slack Alert integration to meet a few specific needs:
Need | Benefit of Slack Alerts |
Monitor coverage in real-time |
|
Facilitate conversations about specific coverage |

Keep your email inbox clean |
|
Use Cases for Slack Alerts
Slack Alerts can be leveraged in a variety of ways, depending on your needs.
Use Case | Description |
Crisis Communications | When it comes to managing crises, speed is key. Seeing new coverage as quickly as possible and discussing it with your team in real-time is critical to setting you up for success in how you respond.
You can send alerts straight to your most prominent Slack channels and have conversations directly in the alert thread to take action immediately. |
Executive Team Visibility | This type of alert sets up the visibility to anyone within a Slack channel, whether they have a Muck Rack seat or not. This is especially useful for users who are seeking a way to loop in their executive team or C-suite so they can be alerted to coverage at the same time. |
Consolidated Coverage Alerts | You may wish to combine the results from several different alerts into one larger channel, rather than several disparate emails.
This is another way Slack alerts can streamline the tracking of media mentions and coverage, reducing digital clutter and making it easier to keep coverage consolidated. |
Customized Newsfeed | Many PR pros like to stay abreast of new developments, trends in the industry, and what’s happening with competitors.
With Coverage Alerts in Slack, you can now curate a customized newsfeed by setting multiple hyper-focused alerts to filter relevant coverage into a single Slack channel. |
Configure Slack Alerts
After completing the setup process (see our Muck Rack Integration with Slack article for how to configure this integration), you can start configuring Alerts to send to Slack. Watch the video or follow the instructions below to learn how to set up Slack Alerts.
From the Navigation bar, select Monitoring > Alerts.
Select the name of an alert you’d like to be sent to a Slack Channel or select the + Create Alert button to create a new alert.
NOTE: At this time, when selecting the Create Alert button, you will first need to select Email as the Alert type. You can then change this to Slack within the Alert settings. Our engineering team is working on an update to this button to include Slack as an alert type in the near future.
From the Create a New Alert page, select Slack under Alert Type within Delivery Settings.
Select which public channel you’d like the alerts sent to. NOTE: Although each alert can be directed to a single channel, it is possible to send multiple alerts to the same channel.
Once you've configured your Alert to your liking, select Save at the bottom.
NOTE: Muck Rack Slack Alerts will appear in your organization's Slack search results. If you'd prefer to avoid this, we recommend using the "Exclude apps and workflows" filter in Slack searches.
Manually Assign a Slack Channel ID
You can manually assign a channel to your alerts rather than selecting a channel listed in Muck Rack. To do so, use the following steps.
From the Navigation bar, select Monitoring > Alerts.
Select the name of a Slack alert to edit it.
Under Select a Delivery Method, choose Enter Channel ID Manually.
Once selected, a text field will appear, and you can enter the channel ID.
Once entered and saved, the dropdown should correctly populate with the channel name for the channel ID you had entered. You should begin to receive alerts when new coverage is found.
Once you've configured your Alert to your liking, select Save at the bottom.
