Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication (otherwise known as 2FA or MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Muck Rack account. It requires anyone who tries to log into your account to have your email address, your password, and a one-time code sent to or available from your mobile device.

We require enabling two-factor authentication on your Muck Rack account because requiring a physical device and password increases your account’s security exponentially.

Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication will be prompted automatically when you create your account.

There are two options for how to receive the verification code on your mobile device:

  1. Download an authentication app (the popular ones are Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy)

  2. Get text messages with the verification codes each time you log in.

Remove an Account From Google Authenticator

Following these steps will allow you to successfully remove an account from Google Authenticator:

  1. Open the Google Authenticator app on the device you wish to unlink. On the main screen displaying all your 2FA codes, select the ellipsis icon in the top right corner.

Shows the Google Authenticator app with the three dots circled in red in the top right corner

  2. Select Edit from the menu that appears. This action will lead you to a menu where you can organize your accounts.

Shows the 'Edit' button circled in red

  3. Select the pencil icon next to the account you wish to delete.

  4. Select the trash can icon to remove the account from the Authenticator app.

Shows the trash can icon circled in red in the top right corner

  5. Confirm by selecting Remove account.

Shows a pop-up message that asks 'Are you sure you want to remove this account?' with the 'Remove account' button circled in red

NOTE: After this process, the token will no longer be available on the specific device but will remain functional on other devices linked to your account.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question

Answer

Is my entire organization required to use two-factor authentication?

Yes; because multiple people in your organization can access Muck Rack, everyone must follow the same security best practices.

When your entire organization is required to enable two-factor authentication, all users with a Muck Rack account will set up two-factor authentication when they log in to their account next.

Can I change my two-factor authentication method?

Yes. You can do so any time using the following steps:

  1. Go to your Settings.

  2. Select Change your method under Two-factor authentication in the Security section.

I don't want to pay for an authentication app; can you just email a code to log in?

Most authentication apps are free. If you're encountering any app requiring a fee, we recommend not using it and instead using Google Authenticator or Authy.

See our Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) article for more information on the different authentication methods available.

If it doesn't allow you to change apps, please reach out to our support team using the chat widget in the bottom right-hand corner via the 'Send us a message' option or send an email to support@muckrack.com.
