How to Use PressPal

  1. Log in to Muck Rack.

  2. Navigate to

  3. Enter your key terms in the text entry bar.

  4. Select the Generate press release button.

  5. Once generated, you will have the option to select Copy text to copy the text of the press release and paste it elsewhere (such as into a word processor, email, or pitch).

  6. Below the list of suggested journalists, select the View full list button to see a complete list of journalists that are relevant to your press release topic.

Best Practices

  • Add a human element
    PressPal is a great tool for when you're stuck staring at a blinking cursor on a blank screen. However, think of it more as a brainstorming session than a final draft.

  • Make it your own
    After generating your press release, we highly encourage you to review it thoroughly before sending it out to relevant journalists.

  • Pay attention to the details
    Adding branded details, personalization, and nuance can take it to the next level. By taking the time to review and refine your press release, you can ensure that it effectively communicates your message and captures the attention of your audience.

  • Who can use this?

    • It will be available to any authenticated user.

  • How is the list of relevant journalists generated?

    • A People Search will be generated using the key terms generated by the AI software. We will display the most relevant People with the Press Release, and link back to that Search if the user would like to see more relevant journalists.

  • Is it possible for a user to not receive a generated Press Release given their prompt?

    • Yes, in two scenarios:

      • If ChatGPT cannot generate a press release given the prompt, the following message will appear: “Can’t interpret prompt: Muck Rack cannot generate a press release based on the provided prompt. Please reword your prompt and try again.”

      • If ChatGPT deems the request as obscene/unacceptable, the following message will appear: “Policy Error: This content may violate OpenAI’s content policy and Muck Rack cannot generate a press release on this subject.”

  • What chatbot powers your tool?

  • Will this link to your Pitching tool?

    • No; it will not link to the Pitching tool.

  • Can I save the press release?

    • No; you will not be able to save the Press Release in Muck Rack.

  • Can I save a list of the relevant journalists?

    • If you would like to save the list of journalists, you can select the View full list button below the list, and then follow the steps listed in the Create a New Media List article here to save the list.

  • Does OpenAI use the data I submit through PressPal to train or improve their models?

    • No, OpenAI will not use data submitted by PressPal via their API to train or improve their models. This is in accordance with their data usage policies which state that they do not train on customer data unless explicitly permitted.

    • Unlike using ChatGPT directly, where you need to register with your email and phone number, we provide an additional level of privacy by anonymizing all data we pass to OpenAI.

  • What is the character limit for typing into PressPal?

    • Currently, PressPal has a limit of 100 characters.
