Filter Guide

Filters in Muck Rack help you refine and narrow down your search results, enabling you to find the most relevant media mentions quickly. Using filters, you can specify criteria such as date range, publication type, outlet, and more to precisely customize your search and focus on the information that matters most to you.

People Search

People Search allows you to discover and connect with relevant people in the media and communications industry, making building relationships, collaborating on stories, or pitching ideas easier.

Verification

Display only Muck Rack-verified journalists.

Terms Must Appear In

Allows you to specify where your search terms must appear within the results.” And then “when using this filter the search results will only display journalists who have mentioned or written about the specified terms in the selected sections.

Bios and Titles

By enabling this filter, the search results will only include journalists who have written blogs or articles with the specified terms in their titles. This filter allows users to target journalists who have created content specifically related to the keywords or topics of interest.

Beats

Filter journalists based on the specific topics or industries they cover.

Outlet Type

Filter journalists based on the type of media outlet they work for (e.g., newspaper, magazine, online publication).

Location

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the reporter's location.

Market

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the location of a media outlet.

Date Range

Allows you to specify a specific timeframe you want to search for articles or media coverage.

Scope

Allows you to narrow down your search results by specifying specific areas or scopes of expertise.

Media Lists

Enables you to search for journalists based on specific curated lists or groups.


Article Search

The Article Search feature in Muck Rack enables users to search for and access specific articles, news pieces, and media content from a wide range of sources and publications.

Function

Date Range

Allows you to select a specific timeframe within which you want to search for articles. You can search up to 5 years.

Must Appear In

Allows you to specify certain terms or keywords that must be present in the headline or article body results. When using this filter, the search results will only display articles containing specified terms in their content, titles, or metadata.

Verification

Filters outlets based on their verification status. Verified articles have been independently fact-checked or vetted by reputable sources.

Language

Search for articles in specific languages. You can select one or multiple languages to refine Your search.

Article Topics

Muck Rack will automatically analyze the text of an article, determine what it is about, and assign up to 4 Topics to that article.

You can then use the new Article Topics filters to include some, all, or none of the topics you see in your results.

Media Outlet Types

Filter articles based on the type of media outlet they are published in. You can select specific outlet types, such as newspapers, magazines, online publications, or broadcast outlets, to refine your search results according to your preferences.

Media Outlets

Enables you to search for articles specifically from selected media outlets. You can choose specific media outlets or a combination of outlets to narrow down the search results to articles published by those particular sources.

Content Types

Allows you to filter articles based on specific types of content, print or online. This filter helps you find articles that match your preferred content format or style.

Scopes

Search for articles within specific areas or scopes of expertise. Like the "Scopes" filter in People Search, this filter helps you find articles that cover particular topics or industries of interest.

Media Lists

Enables you to search for articles specifically from curated media lists or groups.

Locations

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the reporter's location.

Markets

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the location of a media outlet.

Domains

Search for articles from specific website domains. You can enter domain names related to specific websites to find articles published on those websites or from related sources. This filter helps You focus your search on articles from preferred domains or sources.


Media Outlet Search

Media Search allows you to search for and discover various media organizations, publications, and news outlets, providing valuable information about your coverage, journalists, and contact details.

Must Appear In

Specify terms or keywords that must be present in the search results. This filter ensures that the search results only include content that mentions or covers the specified terms, helping you find relevant media content.

Verification

Lets you filter media content based on its verification status. Verified content has been independently fact-checked or vetted by reputable sources or organizations. Learn more about getting verified here.

Languages

Enables you to search for media content in specific languages.

Media Outlet Types

Filter media content based on the type of media outlet. You can select outlet types such as newspapers, magazines, online publications, broadcast outlets, or social media platforms to narrow down your search results according to your preferences.

Scopes

Helps you search for media content within specific areas or scopes of expertise, helping you find content that covers particular topics or industries of interest.

Locations

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the reporter's location.

Markets

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the location of a media outlet.

Contributed Content

Allows you to filter media content specifically contributed by journalists or guest contributors. This helps you find media outlets that have been contributed by individuals outside the media outlet's staff.

Frequency

Filter media content based on its publication frequency. You can select daily, weekly, or monthly, frequency options to refine your search results according to your preferred publication frequency.


Broadcast Search

Broadcast Search enables you to specifically search for and explore television and radio media outlets, along with relevant information about their programming, journalists, and contact information.

Access to Broadcast Clips is a paid add-on feature. To get Broadcast added to your Muck Rack account, reach out to your Customer Success Manager via email, or contact Support.

Lets you specify a specific timeframe for searching broadcast content. Setting a date range allows you to narrow your search results to content aired or broadcasted within that period.

Timezone

Search for broadcast content based on specific time zones.

Content Types

Enables you to filter broadcast content based on specific types of programming, Tv or radio, tailoring your search results to your preferred content type.

Locations

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the reporter's location.

Markets

Narrow down results by specifying a particular geographic area based on the location of a media outlet.

Networks

Filter broadcast content based on specific television networks. You can select one or multiple networks to refine your search results and find aired content on those networks.

Stations

Search for broadcast content from specific television stations.

Programs

Filter broadcast content based on specific television programs or shows. You can search for content associated with particular program titles or keywords to find episodes or segments from those programs, helping you find content related to your preferred television shows or specific program segments.
